Presentation
The aim of this section is to help teachers prepare their projects and museum visit. It contains useful information and educational resources for both the teachers and their students.
Presentation of the Department
Created in 1992, the very year the museum opened, the Education Department arose from a convention between the French Ministry of Education ‘Education Nationale’, the Somme Departmental Council and the Historial de la Grande Guerre Association. It is currently composed of a secretary, Catherine Mouquet, and four teachers provided by the Ministry of Education: Laurent Mariaud, a technical college teacher of French, history and geography; Jean-François Birebent, a high school teacher of history and geography; André Brieude, an art teacher and Christophe Thomas, a primary school teacher.
Their Mission
Official bulletin No.15 of 15 April 2010, specifies the various missions of the French education departments. They are based upon four principal objectives:
- To inform schools of the activities and resources provided by the cultural institution, and to promote this institution to teachers and their students.
- To conceive and implement a cultural activity programme, which is adapted to school audiences and useful to teachers preparing their school projects (providing teachers with advice, preparing the school’s visit and assisting with artistic and cultural educational programmes),
- To help create and implement teacher training courses,
- To produce and provide educational resources.
